Eva
grew up in Hungary in a typical middle class family of five children,
one sister and 3 brothers. Unfortunately, her sister was lost
at 11-years old, a victim
of war-related injuries. A favorite aunt who was a
porcelain painter let Eva use her paints
when she would visit her apartment after school. Eva fell in
love with the art form,
but had to put it aside because of the hardships during
and following WWII.
Eva married in 1955 and emigrated to the
U.S. with her husband, Gabor, in 1956.
They settled in Colorado because Gabor wanted to build a ski area,
which is known today as Eldora.
The family lived in Nederland and raised 4 boys. Eva lost
Gabor to cancer in1979.
Joseph
Distel came into Eva’s life in 1982 and their marriage offered Eva the
opportunity to
retire shortly after and she again became involved in her dream art
form,
china painting. She likes to pour and sculpt porcelain eggs
and jewelry
and make porcelain flowers to attach to cut-out eggs.
